Company Information
Our organisation was created in 1990 as a vendor of integrated modelling software to the oil and gas industry. Since then we have built up a hugely successful business with more than 450 clients across the world, ranging from small consultancies to major multinational corporations. In our last trading year the company turned over £66m and has significant cash reserves which are to be held for future expansion.
In this regard, we see an exciting future which embraces the challenges around energy transition technologies and renewables. In addition, we see huge scope in applying the lessons that we have learnt within this industry to other sectors, notably mining, banking, and medicine.
With this in mind, the company is on the cusp of a major expansion. Part of this involves the relocation of the headquarters from Edinburgh to Guildford in Surrey, to take advantage of the improved travel links, recruitment possibilities, and links to London. A new office has just opened in Guildford, and it will become the company headquarters in September 2025.
PE Limited currently has 90 staff, split roughly between technical support, providing solutions for customers, product development, and contract and licensing administration. The technical staff are all highly qualified, with almost everyone having at least a Masters qualification and many holding PhDs.
Package
Our starting salary is around £61,000. Within a comprehensive package we also offer an annual performance bonus, an excellent pension to which the company will match up to 10% of all employee contributions, private health and dental insurance, and other benefits.
About this Vacancy
We are interested in meeting candidates for engineering and product development roles. There is significant overlap and movement between the teams.
Engineering
The core task of the engineer is to support existing clients in all aspects of their usage of the software. As the software evolves the role will also evolve (e.g. towards energy transition technologies). The engineer will:
- Assist the development team with research and development on any aspect of company interest, as noted above.
- Provide technical advice and support to clients on all aspects of petroleum engineering (production, reservoir, process, real time systems and research).
- Conduct engineering data processing and analysis, modelling, and general research and development projects.
- Train clients worldwide.
- Exercise a considerable amount of personal initiative and take a pro-active commercial approach to developing the company's business.
- Report to the Technical Director.
The role is suited to engineers who wish to develop their engineering knowledge whilst pursuing an exciting and challenging technical and business career. It is ideally suited to an engineer who has graduated within the last few years, but any experience will be considered. Extensive travel is required.
Product Development
The product developers are responsible for building the software. A development engineer will:
- Perform day-to-day software development tasks as part of a team.
- Collaborate with other teams to ensure that integrated functionality works as required.
- Work with the engineers to support customers, and attend meetings with customers.
- Conduct research and development projects.
- Report to the technical director.
Software development is carried out in C++ (for the calculation engines) or C# (for the digitalisation platform). The full technology stack is available on request, but we do not expect a graduate developer to have expertise across the entirety of this.
