A Recap of Our Annual User Meeting 2026

We recently hosted our Annual User Meeting (UGM 2026), gathering petroleum engineers, geoscientists, and energy professionals from around the world in our new Guilford HQ.

The multi-day event served as a collaborative hub to unveil our latest research and development breakthroughs, share field-proven workflows, and demonstrate how the Integrated Production Modelling (IPM) suite is evolving to meet the complex demands of the modern energy mix.

Framed around a sequence of targeted technical tracks, the meeting walked attendees through the entire engineering lifecycle—moving seamlessly from high-level software innovation down to the physics of fluids, wellbore design, and global surface network optimization.

A Landmark Announcement: Real-Time PTA Integration

This year’s meeting also marked a genuine milestone for the industry with a landmark extension to the Petex Digital Oil Field (DOF) offering. We officially announced that the Petex DOF can now communicate, end-to-end, seamlessly, and in real time with "Andromeda" Pressure Transient Analysis (PTA), brought to you by Nassim Gassabi, co-founder and Managing Director of Engineering Workflows Ltd.

Historically, PTA sat off to the side as a separate specialist stream, disconnected from daily surveillance and optimization. It relied heavily on manual data moves, reconciliation, and interpretations made outside the core system.

Now, that separation is gone. For the first time, PTA can be natively embedded inside the DOF in real time as part of the live production engineering environment where decisions actually get made. This represents a fundamental shift in how subsurface and production engineering come together:

  • Continuous Live Analysis: PTA analysis now runs continuously on live data streams.

  • Direct Workflow Integration: Results flow straight back into front-line engineering workflows.

  • Unified Decision-Making: Engineering decisions happen in a single, real-time environment with zero duplication, no parallel systems, and no loss of context between disciplines.

At the core of this integration is Andromeda, a vendor-neutral platform built on an open REST API. Together, Petex DOF and Andromeda form a single, extensible environment where advanced analytics, automation, and daily operations run side by side. Already operating live and implemented in ongoing pilot projects with some of the industry's biggest players, this automated PTA workflow is delivering both diagnostic insight and operational efficiency directly inside the DOF.

Driving Innovation in Core Digital Workflows

In tandem with our real-time integration breakthroughs, the event featured a deep dive into Petex’s core software architecture. As operators face tighter margins and data-heavy reservoirs, our development team focused on how we are accelerating computational speeds and enhancing user-experience (UI/UX) workflows across the board.

The primary theme remained centered on breaking down the walls between engineering disciplines. Attendees were shown how our newer data structures allow subsurface specialists, reservoir engineers, and production teams to interact with massive, asset-wide models simultaneously without experiencing data loss or lag. This foundational focus highlighted Petex's commitment to ensuring our calculators remain robust, fast, and scalable for both cloud and desktop deployments.

Mastering the Fundamentals: Advanced Fluids and Well Workflows

Moving from infrastructure to the fundamental physics driving field behavior, technical sessions shifted focus to fluid characterization and wellbore modeling. Leveraging our industry-standard applications, PVTp and PROSPER, the Petex team conducted deep-dive workshops aimed at reducing uncertainty from the very beginning of the production cycle.

Connecting the Network: System-Wide Integration and Transient Modelling

The final technical focus of the user meeting tackled the complex world of surface production systems and time-dependent dynamics using GAP and GAP TRANSIENT.

While steady-state modeling is invaluable for daily operations, real-world networks are inherently dynamic. Petex engineers demonstrated how connecting individual well models to a centralized surface infrastructure in GAP allows for the simultaneous optimization of entire fields.

The team also showcased powerful workflows utilizing Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) to solve the industry's most challenging network constraints:

  • Managing Production Surges: Simulating time-dependent operations such as line packing, well blowdowns, and pigging cycles using GAP TRANSIENT to ensure surface facilities can handle incoming liquid slugs.

  • System Bottlenecking: Maximizing total asset throughput while strictly honoring tight, localized pipeline pressure and facility processing limits.

  • De-risking Satellite Tie-ins: Modeling how introducing new asset expansions impacts the backpressure and performance of existing legacy wells over time.

Engineering the Energy Transition

A major talking point throughout the event was the versatility of the IPM suite beyond traditional hydrocarbons. The Petex team demonstrated how these exact physics-based calculators are increasingly being deployed to model Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) networks and geothermal systems, where precise fluid thermodynamics and transient line modelling are absolutely critical.
