SIMULATOR FOR SPECIALISED RESERVOIR STUDIES

REVEAL is an integrated reservoir simulator that combines conventional reservoir modelling with specialised studies such as EOR, thermal fracturing, production chemistry, and solids transport. It enables fully coupled reservoir and production analysis, imports existing models, and links with surface networks via RESOLVE for integrated field optimisation.

Temperature

REVEAL is a fully thermal simulator that captures convective and conductive heat transfer, Joule–Thomson effects, and temperature-driven changes in flow and recovery. It is particularly suited to studying injection processes where thermal contrasts between injected fluids and the reservoir significantly impact performance.

Geo-Mechanics and Fractures

Rock mechanics are directly coupled with flow and thermal models to simulate hydraulic and thermal fracturing. A finite-element fracture model is integrated with the finite-difference simulator to capture fracture initiation, propagation, and stress-dependent behaviour, including poro- and thermo-elastic effects.

Rock Failure and Sand Generation

Shear and plastic failure criteria enable modelling of sand production, transport, and deposition based on particle size and pore structure. Sand can accumulate in wells, contributing to skin development and impacting productivity.

Filtercake

The filtercake model simulates formation damage from injected particulates, tracking build-up in injection wells and fractures and its impact on injectivity.

Polymers/Gels

REVEAL models polymer and gel injection for mobility control in heterogeneous reservoirs, including effects of temperature, salinity, pH, kinetics, and degradation of chemical agents such as gels, foams, and cross-linkers.

Surfactants

Surfactant flooding is modelled through interfacial tension reduction and phase behaviour changes, improving mobility and recovery of heavy oils. The system uses chemical interactions to determine phase distributions, including ASP (alkaline surfactant polymer) processes.

Asphaltene / Wax

Wax and asphaltene precipitation are modelled as functions of pressure and temperature, including deposition, permeability reduction, and pore-scale plugging effects to define operating envelopes.

Water Chemistry

A detailed reactive transport model captures mineral dissolution, precipitation, pH-dependent processes, and CO₂–brine interactions. It also includes batch chemistry tools for brine validation and quality control.

Bacterial Souring

The model simulates microbial H₂S generation, transport, and phase partitioning, allowing assessment of souring severity and mitigation strategies based on bacterial activity and reservoir conditions.

Scale

Scale formation from incompatible water mixing is modelled alongside inhibitor performance, including adsorption and squeeze treatments for both reversible and irreversible scaling control.

Complex Fluids

REVEAL supports black oil and compositional PVT models, including condensates, CO₂, N₂, and non-Newtonian fluids where viscosity varies with shear stress.

Advanced Wells

Complex well architectures such as multilateral systems, dual completions, and flow control devices are fully supported. The model captures wellbore hydraulics, heat transfer, and interaction with fractures, enabling detailed performance and control analysis.

Steam

A fully implicit steam injection model supports huff-and-puff and SAGD processes, including automated preheating, production scheduling, and sub-cool control within dynamically coupled reservoir–well systems.
