Like many mature offshore assets, the Bekapai Field faced the combined challenge of aging facilities and declining reservoir pressure. Traditional artificial lift options were difficult to implement because of space limitations, power constraints and the characteristics of the wells themselves.
Engineers recognised that additional production potential remained in the field, but unlocking it required finding a way to distribute available gas lift resources more effectively. The problem was complicated by the fact that not every production platform had access to a suitable source of high-pressure gas.
Simply adding more infrastructure was neither practical nor cost-effective. Instead, the operator needed a way to understand how gas lift could be shared across interconnected platforms while making the best use of existing facilities.
Using PROSPER alongside integrated engineering workflows, engineers evaluated production behaviour, gas lift requirements and optimisation opportunities across the wider field network. This allowed them to identify practical operating scenarios that could increase production without major facility modifications.
The outcome was an increase of approximately 11,000 barrels of liquid production per day. More importantly, the solution demonstrated how existing infrastructure could be used more effectively, unlocking significant value from a mature offshore asset.
