Petex: Understanding Long-Term Recovery in a Mature Gas Field

What's really left in a declining field? El Franig's integrated MBAL-PROSPER-GAP model uncovers 200 MSCF and a 58% recovery path.

El Franig Field Modeling and Production Optimisation Opportunities using Petex Software tools T15: Production & Development Projects

Production from the El Franig Field had declined significantly over time, raising important questions about remaining reserves, future recovery potential and the most effective operating strategy moving forward.

Although historical production data existed, understanding how the reservoir, wells and surface facilities interacted required a much more complete picture than individual engineering studies could provide.

The operator needed to estimate remaining hydrocarbons in place, understand pressure depletion trends and assess how the field might perform under different future development scenarios.

To achieve this, an integrated workflow was developed using MBAL, PROSPER and GAP. Reservoir behaviour, well performance and surface facilities were linked together to provide a consistent representation of the field.

The resulting models estimated an original gas-in-place volume of around 200 MSCF, forecast pressure decline throughout the life of the field and projected recovery factors approaching 58%. More importantly, the workflow provided a reliable basis for future planning, helping engineers evaluate production strategies with greater confidence.
