ENGINEERING AND STRUCTURAL GEOLOGY SOFTWARE

Case Studies

We have a team of structural geologists who use their combined experience to deliver every project, solving your structural geology problems and rigorously peer-reviewing all of the work delivered to you.

We have worked in all tectonic settings - salt, extension, inversion, compression, strike-slipall around the world; we draw on our knowledge and experience of similar projects to ensure the projects we deliver for you are to the highest possible standard.

To give you an idea of the range of structural geology problems we tackle, click on the case studies below for a brief outline of some of our recent projects, the value they added for our clients and the project timeframes.

Structural modelling and fault seal analysis techniques were used to give a preliminary assessment of fault seal potential through time. We worked closely with the client and trained them on the workflows for them to continue the work in MOVE.

Timeframe

undefined

Structural setting: Salt Tectonic & extension

Value added: Initial assessment of fault seal risk for planned exploration well; knowledge transfer in the techniques and software skills to carry out this type of work again independently.

Model building and validation techniques were used to improve the understanding of structural controls on the mineral deposit and provide an external evaluation of the current structural model.

Timeframe

undefined

Structural setting: Strike-slip & extension

Value added: Refined current geological model for ore body mapping and mine planning.

Structural modelling techniques were used to assess uncertainty associated with different structural models and aid appraisal of an anticlinal trap.

Timeframe

undefined

Structural setting: Compression

Value added: Quantification of uncertainty in volumetric calculations associated with different structural models to inform decisions on field development.

Structural modelling and restoration techniques were used to determine paleo-bathymetry, erosion and help identify prospective locations for reservoir quality sands.

Timeframe

undefined

Structural setting: Salt Tectonics & extension

Value added: Identified areas of erosion for further investigation of potential reservoir sand deposits to inform exploration strategies.

Structural modelling, fracture prediction and stress modelling was carried out to better understand natural fracture distributions and stability to assess risks of well planning.

Timeframe

undefined

Structural setting: Inversion, compression, strike-slip

Value added: Identified locations of fractures which are more unstable to aid well planning.

Regional analysis, structural modelling, fracture prediction and discrete fracture network (DFN) modelling techniques, as well as field work, were used to improve the understanding of natural fracture distributions to inform block caving plans. This project was on the upper end of our project timeframes due to the complexity of the data and scale of the area.

Timeframe: 1 year multi-phase project with multiple face-to-face meetings.

Structural setting: Transpression

Value added: Validated mine and DFN model to reduce risk when block-cave mining.

During project scoping and project phases we will communicate closely with you, to ensure we understand your requirements and draw on your knowledge as required, in turn feeding back project learnings to you. The strong collaborative basis of our projects helps us understand the nature of the problem being faced, which has benefit for your geoscientists, who gain a good understanding of the work that we have carried out.

We provide the option and encourage technical transfers (workshops) at the end of projects, to pass on the knowledge learned to your geoscientists, to enable them to continue the work or carry out similar analysis in MOVE on other fields/areas. Workshops encourage shared ideas and good communication.

As we have touched on previously, each project scope is unique, so please get in touch to discuss your structural geology related requirements with one of our team. We can work together to develop a solution that meets your needs.
